A pair of 'then and now' videos today from Gallon Drunk.
Some Fools Mess
Based around James Johnston since their formation in 1990, Gallon Drunk were a gang of suavely debauched young men in sharp suits who certainly knew where the brylcreem was kept. Their sound was a chaotic deconstruction of the blues shot through with voodoo rhythms and swimming in reverb and feedback. The music press at the time deservedly heaped praise on their incendiary live performances.
Before the Fire
Twenty four years and several line ups later this track, taken from 2014's The Soul Of The Hour presents a stunningly evolved sound. Still wildly elemental but more expansive and ambitious than ever. Lat year's gig at The 100 Club was one of the best of the year in my humble opinion.
