GAVIN JAY ART, DESIGN AND MUSIC
HOK Gallery is hosting Gavin Jays' first solo exhibition in The Netherlands, entitled 'Pull The Strings.'
The exhibition is comprised of new work created specially for HOK by Gavin Jay and is accompanied by a limited edition booklet featuring his writing, designed and RISO printed by Lula Valletta.
Known for his bass playing with Jim Jones Revue and Jim Jones and the Righteous Mind, Gavin is becoming increasingly recognised in his own right as a visual artist, with HOK Gallery hosting his first ever international solo art show. Using three dimensional shadow boxes, Gavin designs surrealist collages and mounts them in layers behind ornate frames. Reminiscent of Victorian toy theatres and the assemblages of Joseph Cornell, Gavin's work is both nostalgic and unsettling, with a nod to Pop Art highlighting his musical roots.
Gavin has previously exhibited in group shows around London and was featured artist at Jeffery-West Piccadilly in 2018.
Pull The Strings runs from 13 December till 11 January 2020 and more information about HOK Gallery can be found here.

I am pleased to offer a selection of my original artwork to purchase. Ships worldwide, for more info please click on the images below.
Inspired by the work of Max Ernst and Joseph Cornell with a dark twist of Psychedelia and Pop Art, these collages are made from scans of found imagery from Victorian books, old journals etc, which are printed onto heavy card and cut out by hand. I then build up layers with balsa wood to produce a three dimensional image.
The smaller boxes measure 23cm x 18cm and are limited editions of 75. The other designs are one-offs and sit in vintage refinished frames .
